It seems the lens has some weaknesses which you can easily correct in Photoshop (distortion, croma noise,…). The most important thing is that the lens shows impressive resolution! And that matters!
For UK only, amazon has the Olympus Pen E-P1 (14-42mm Silver Lens Kit) – Silver
Distorsions, etc. were a bit expected but as you said one can photoshop them out.
I believe that computer post-processing will make high-end lenses obsolete.
Tons of glass were necessary in the film age to eliminate distortion and CA because there was no way back then to remove them, but this is not true any more.
And by the way, lots of pixels on the sensor probably help for post-processing too.
