Olympus interview at IR: “Sensors are coming close to the physical limit”
There is a new Olympus interview at Imaging Resource. Most of the talk was about the new E-M1II, But Mr.Haruo Ogawa gave us a couple of “extra” interesting info:
- He expects that in five years the new Olympus cameras will be four times more powerful than the E-M1II (you need this for 8K for example)
- When asked if sensors can improve in terms of noise and sensitivity or if we are very close to physical limits he answers: “I think that now [regarding] the noise level, we are coming close to the physical limit.”
So it looks current sensor technology doesn’t allow major leaps forward. But I am pretty sure new things will happen in the future. Something like three layer sensors, graphene sensors and so on could still give us major improvements.
