(FT4) HOT! Panasonic GF2 with Built-in EVF?
(FT3) Olympus E-460 coming soon? DxO Optics pro software leak
Inbody IS (thumbs up), no swivel screen (thumbs down) – talk about a step back in evolution. A 2.8? Great for street photography, not so good at night. A 3″ screen, what better way to such battery power. Oh wait, these are just rumors
Bu:
Camera will be more expensive with swivel screen. In next camera may be
but $990 without swivel Lcd and without EVF is very expensive ,no?
a113:
Yeah, but i wait realise. Will be announced not camera only. Will be announced whole system(lenses, flash, and other) and accessories. I don`t now what included in KIT
I don’t think a swivel screen fits the form factor. But it will be interesting to se what motivates the high price.
Is this a rumor / tip that you received from someone, or more along the lines of speculation as to what the specs might be? There isn’t an “FT” rating, so I am having trouble placing this post in context.
Best,
Adam
$990! I can buy a new T1i w/lens and a bigger sensor for less!
why are reports saying the camera is going to be thick? I thought the whole point of getting rid of the mirror box was to slim things up a bit.
I think the high price will be motivated by exceptional ‘Leica’ like build quality.
Where did you get ‘Leica’ build quality. I thought the Oly pres stated that the m43 fits into a better ‘prices, sizes, weights’ when compared to dslr’s.
There have been no press release regarding the E-P1 from Olympus. They have communicated general goals for m4/3 but that doesn’t mean this first camera will be right in the middle of those goals. Like with the first 4/3 camera (the E-1) they might go for a more exclusive model first. This is an excellent approach to build credibility and maximize return of investment.
“Where did you get ‘Leica’ build quality”
Based on some comparisons I have seen along the lines of ‘if you like Leica you will love this …” and also based on the reports that the body is much nicer than the G1 & DP2. There was even a hint in the dpReview interview that there could be weather sealing … please, please, please! (http://www.dpreview.com/news/0903/09032002olympusinterview.asp). Also it will resemble the original Pen camera which means exposed metal and a rangefinder look. Considering the price is better have amazing build quality!
-”Thicker then DP2″- ?? If its thicker then DP2 and has a grip then it must be bigger then G1!
and thats w/o swivel screen and w/o EVF! if this turns out to be true then its really ridicules, as it’s bigger then E-450 also.
It’s kinda losses its justification to exist…
What a silly statement- “it must be bigger than the G1″ – based on what? Where is a single actual measurement? If someone says its “thicker” than a DP – does that mean just theDP body or the DP body with the lens protrusion? Makes quite a difference! A DP with lesn extended is almost the same depth as a Olympus E420 with a pancake lens. And does that mean the Olympus is taller than the G1? – unlikely as it wont have a fake pentaprism hump. Have you actually seen a G1? It isn’t that much bigger than a Canon G10 – which is fine in my books – this isnt meant to be a credit card toy camera – it is an interchangable lens system camera. If you are wanting a toy camera you looking in the wrong place.
Bleh. 17/2.8. Slow. Why? What’s the point of M4/3 if not small, fast lenses?
If not swivel then at least a tilting lens, something to aid composition. I simply cannot understand how any camera today can come without a lens on some sort of hinge…
“The camera isn’t rectangular like the mockup you have seen.”
That concerns me. If it looks like a G1/GH1. I don’t want a camera with a faux DSLR hump. What’s the point? Styling? I have plenty of DSLRs to choose from. I don’t need a miniature-looking one.
If it looks like a Pen/Leica with a little hand grip, then put me on the list.
Wolfie, I think that you area clearly in the wrong forum or your missing the whol m4/3 idea of a smaller camera
anyhow thats a silly reply you wrote
because if the rumor is true and its thicker then DP2 then its more then 11mm thicker then G1, and thats a no no for such camera
ofcurse if the rumor is based on the size of EP-1 with a lens then this dosnt apply
Frosty…. the DP2 (unextended) is about 56mm from lens tip to LCD. However the lens section makes up almost half of the camera’s depth. Judging from the photos the body block is probably somewhere around 32mm. If we assume that is what the rumor refers to, then such a body could still be fairly small.
We already know that the lens register is around 20 mm. So the question is how much thickness there is from the sensor surface to the back of the camera. There we have a part of the IS mechanism, probably a circuit board and then the LCD. What be could the combined thickness of these? I would guess around 10 mm. So a total thickness of around 30 mm seems very probable.
Dylan,Agent00soul,
It sounds logical and i hope you’ll be right!
It would be nice if olympus could redesign 14-42 lens and make it smaller then the current offering
Frosti7 wishes that the zoom 14-42 mm is redesigned to make it smaller. Possibly a 20-35 mm lens? I would like it. — Chris wishes instead of the 2,8/17 mm a (small) faster lens: Okay, Panasonic announced a 1,7/20 mm (which of course must be compatible). — If external optical viewfinders are offered, they should not be too bulky, but for instance collapsible.
2.8 is a little slow, but I’m having trouble thinking of other 17mm (or similar) lenses of any mount that are faster. Zeiss has a 15/2.8 but it’s like $3500. Leica has the 21/1.4 summilux which is 5kish. So maybe a 17/2.8 is the best price/performance they can do, which leaves a lot of room for say CV to do a faster wide angle lens.
Yes, I understand there’s no faster 17. But let’s talk about focal length equivalents, because that’s what matters to the photographer. A 17 on M4/3 is a 34mm EFL. Canon has a 35/1.4 (very expensive), but also a 35/2 (very affordable). The idea, as far as I understood it, was that M4/3 offered the potential for smaller and equally fast lenses to APS-C. That does not appear to be happening.
Most SLR systems have a cheap fast prime lens. usually a 50mm f1.8 for $90. yes it’s made of all plastic, but it takes great pictures. I hope Oly announces a comparable lens.
My big complaint is the camera price. You can easily get a sensor that is much bigger for a lot cheaper. I believe their reasoning is based on the Video feature… not build quality. E-P1 with 720p for $1000. GH1 with 1080p is $1500!!! I think they are wrong, but this is where they are getting the idea.
guys? please look at the image of the e-p1 top plate. there is a plastic bag covering the lcd screen, right? what i want to say that the plastic bag must hook up to something to hold on. and the only thing i could think of is if the screen detaches from the body – swivel screen that gets into the bag like a hand fits in a glove. what do you think? could it be it? i really hope so….
For “expert” this camera must be black, and must have a digital or optical usable VIEWFINDER
I hope it will be the case …
Traciatim, well if it was a film to peel it of, as you say, we wouldnt see it on the image would we? i mean that the film you say it is would be too tightly sticked to the screen right? however in the image if you look closely its obvious that there is space between the plastic and the lcd – an air pocket if you like. dont you think so? look at the image again, and tell me what you think?
I do not believe the LCD will swivel. No chance…
