Olympus Q&A at Imaging Resource: New “entry level” PEN models coming for sure
Imaging Resource posted their Olympus Q&A. And those are some new info we got:
1) “we in the imaging division have to show a profit. So [for that reason] we focus more on our OM-D category, not on the digital compact cameras. So we are now investing less and fewer resources on compact cameras, and more focusing on the OM-D, the interchangeable-lens mirrorless cameras.”
2) In difficult times the top management where considering the reasons why they should keep the imaging business. But now “the company is much more behind the imaging business.”
3) While the system camera sales in 2015 dropped 5% (according to CIPA) Olympus managed to increase their sales by 5%.
4) PEN-F target users are enthusiasts and male.
5) Last consumer PEN was the E-Pl7 (launched 18 months ago). Olympus confirms there will be new entry-level models: “Yes, of course. Sure. As I said, the PEN line is important for us from the target user point of view.”
6) The future lens development focus is on PRO primes.
