Panasonic GH1 vs Canon 500D / Canon T1i

It is time for a small comparison between the two competitor. The Panasonic GH1 and Canon 5ooT1i /500D
| Pansonic GH1 | Canon 500d |
| 12 MP | 15 MP |
| 1.500$ with 14-140 kit lens | 900$ with 18-55 kit lens |
| 3.0″ TFT LCD monitor 460,000 dots | 3.0″ VGA screen 920,000 dots (NO swifel) |
| 23-Area-Focusing/1 Area Focusing (inc. Face Detection) | 9 Point AF (inc. Face Detection for AF) |
| video mode (1920 x 1080 24p and 720 60p/30p) | video mode (1920 x 1080 20p and 720 30p) |
| Sensitivity (100-3200 ISO) | Sensitivity (100-3200 ISO expandable to 12.800) |
What surprised me a lot is to see that Canon choose a 20fps in 1080 format. it is a nonsense format because it doesn’t come to the standard minimum which is 24p. You will see a lot of flickering in recorded videos.
If the sensor is the same as the Canon 50d expect a little worser image quality compared to the Canon 40d. For the rest nothing has changed. The same “old” autofocus and boring camera chassis and design. Not a big deal for me.

After the release of the Rebel I’ve made my decision to go with the G1h. I’m a video artist and the G1h just has the features and considerations that make me happy with the way Panasonic is going. I’m really excited to see how they stack up against each other. Does anyone know how the canon can expand it’s ISO, as low light is one major consideration for me.
Thanks
BTW, I think the GH1 does 720p at 30 and 60 fps.
If you want to “expand your ISO” simply underexpose and then recover lightness from RAW file… -.-’
Panasonic: the price of a 5D body + nice prime for HD movie and 10x Zoom. How to screw it up a lot of money.
The operation is simple and easy even if you are a beginner. You’ll have uncompromised Canon T1i’s performance with power and flexibility right in the palm of your hand.
Why wouldn’t a comparison such as this have physical dimensions and weights? Surely these are of paramount importance.
