60mm macro tested at Photozone.

Photozone (Click here) published the full Olympus 60mm macro review: “The question of the day is whether to prefer the Olympus M.Zuiko 60mm f/2.8 ED macro over the Leica DG Macro-Elmarit 45mm f/2.8 ASPH OIS ? As far as the key aspects is concerned the Leica lens may be a tad sharper whereas the M.Zuiko has a slight edge on the bokeh side. The choice is yours. :-)

Dpreview 17mm samples and X10 hands-on.

[shoplink 34914]

[/shoplink] Dpreview (Click here) just posted the 17mm f/1.8 image samples. Better late than never :)  There is no review yet but they do write: “We haven’t had to opportunity to test the image quality in detail but, while not as sensationally sharp as the 45mm F1.8 and 75mm F1.8 lenses, the 17mm appears to do pretty well and with neither corner sharpness nor distortion showing much to be concerned about.
And also Amazon lens buyers seem to like the lens. The first six user reviews are quite positive (Click here to read them).

E-M5, GH3, E-PL5 and new MFT lens reviews.

Let me catch up with some major new MFT reviews:

The video on top shows an EM-5 Battery Grip Review & Test by WhatDigitalCamera. And Thom Hogan posted his review of the E-M5 at SansMirror.com.

SLRlounge posted the first part of the “Big Panasonic GH3 Review”. Also Naturalexposures posted a new chapter about the GH3.

E-PL5 review at Digital-photography-school.

CameraLabs (Click here) tested the Olympus 45mm f/1.8 lens: “The Olympus 45mm f1.8 is arguably one of the best lenses for the Micro Four Thirds system, whether you’re using an Olympus or Panasonic body. This lens is so small and light you’ll hardly know you’re carrying it around, yet is capable of delivering industry-leading performance with pin-sharp details across the entire frame right into the extreme corners.

Fotopolis (translation here) posted the Panasonic 14mm f/2.5 review. The English version should be online soon on their partner site Lenstip.

First image samples taken with the new Nokton 42,5mm f/0.95!

This is the very first time you can see some image samples taken with the new Nokton 42,5mm f/0.95 lens. Here are the links to the three images. Please be aware that the photographer made the mistake to write 25mm instead of 42,5mm on the title. He will correct it soon :)

Video of the Panasonic CP+ booth (with new 14-42mm II lens).

PhotoNewsReviews posted this Panasonic 14-42mm II hands-on video at the CP+ booth in Japan. As you can see this lens is really the only “news” you find from Panasonic. It’s the biggest show of the year right in heart of the camera industry and I am still surprised to see the most Japanese companies didn’t unveil any major new camera or lens. Photokina was five months ago and no other big shows are coming this year (no Photokina, CES was in early January). You have an idea what’s going on?

By the way, if you find more videos of the show feel free to share! Thanks!

Also the 60mm macro gets DxOmarked.

After having tested the Olympus body cap lens today DxOmark (Click here) also released the Olympus 60mm macro results. They write: “Compared to its main (and more expensive) competitor, the Panasonic Leica DG Macro-Elmarit 45mm F2.8 ASPH OIS, it offers better quality for the money, delivering category-leading vignetting performance among Micro Four Thirds prime lenses as well as excellent sharpness.

And let’s keep talking about the new lens tests:
The Olympus 17mm f/1.8 has been tested by Lepidi (translation here) and  Steve Huff. And there is a Panasonic 12-35mm lens test at Thebitmap.

No one of these lenses is as good as the Olympus body cap lens of course :)

Olympus Body Cap lens ranks at 2872th place at DxOmark. 75mm review by T.Robichaud.

Olympus body cap lens:
DxOmark (Click here) tested the Olympus Body Cap lens. I guess they did it just for fun to see how low the quality is. And indeed the lens ranks at 2872th place: “No photographer buying a $49, 9mm long body cap lens is expecting optical perfection. Instead this lens is a bit of fun, a curiosity, a point and shoot option that’s a bit quirky and doesn’t cost much money. The limited focusing, fixed 15mm focal length and f/8 aperture will be overly restrictive for some and the latter means you’ll need to shoot in decent light, unless you’re really going to crank up the ISO. Those restrictions however will often make you work in a different way and who knows, you might be pleasantly surprised by the results.
Curiosity: Pentax today announced a body cpa lens for the Q system too (Source: MR).

Olympus 75mm f/1.8 lens:
Now let’s rise the bar from the worse to the best lens. Our friend Tyson Robichaud (Click here) tested the Olympus 75mm f/1.8: “It’s sharp, too sharp some may even say for portraiture as you’ll potentially need to be softening skin to get the most flattering results in certain situations.  The price is high, but that is what it is.  Should Olympus have provided a hood and sealing at this price point?  I think so yes, but once you get over that hurdle, you won’t be left wanting from a pure image quality standpoint.
