The OM Digital rumors guess from Digitalcameraworld

Digitalcameraworld summed up what we can expect to get from OM Digital:

  • New OM-10: We can thus surmise that the OM System OM-10 will probably possess very similar specs to the brilliant Olympus PEN E-P7
  • OM System will partner with other companies
  • PEN and Tough cameras will continue
  • OM System PEN-F II
  • OM System PEN E-PL11
  • OM System Tough TG-7 (16MP with new Truepic processor)
  • Bags, straps and photography tours (OM Digital trying to expand their market to accessories and in person tours)

Let’s hope most of this turns out to be true!

Sony’s High Speed 80 MP Quadpixel MFT sensor with full-pixel 2x2OCL phase focusing now available for all third party manufacturers

Someone just sent me the specs of the newly listed SOny MFT sensor:

80 million pixels, MFT (M4/3) Type 4/3, double-layer stacked, full-pixel 2x2OCL phase focusing.
Adjacent Pixel Binning, 12bit 121fps, 10bit 151fps; high speed.
2×2 OCL means quadbayer.  4 pixels share same microlens .

UPDATE: This looks like the OM-1 sensor. If indeed that’s the case than this might means that Sony will sells that very same sensor to all third party companies.

OM Digital and Lumix rumor recap: The relaunch of mid level cameras?

Panasonic made it very clear that a new Lumix MFT camera is coming soon. And also OM Digital might announce “something” in June. So let’s recap what to expect

  1. Yosuke Yamane manager CEO hints that the first Lumix MFT camera with phase detection might be announced soon (article here). This might be some sort of G9II camera with phase detection AF as Yamane also hinted at possible new more “affordable” MFT cameras.
  2. There is also a wild rumor about a sort of GH6II. Basically  a GH6 with same sensor resolution but with phase detection pixels on it.
  3. OM Digital might announce a new product in June. Not sure if this is a lens or a camera (article here).
  4. It’s highly likely we might get a new OM-10 camera sometimes in 2023
  5. Still unclear if the PEN line will continue yet…

So far I have not gotten any new rumor about possible lenses. But I guess launching new cameras is the real priority now.

Some first wild rumors about a possible new OM product announcement in June…

Panasonic made no secret that we can soon expect a new product announcement. Likely a new entry level MFT camera with phase detection autofocus!

But it has been silent on the OM Digital front. Now for the first time I got a hint that there might be a product announcement coming in June. Likely that this is about a new lens. Hope to get more details soon…

Weird rumor: Panasonic to revive the Lumix G7 lineup

The Chinese rumor site CameraBeta wrote this strange message:

Over the past two years, cameras have become more and more expensive, and flagships have become even more difficult to obtain. Personally, I want a compact and lightweight camera that can shoot 4K.

Recently, there are rumors that Panasonic wants to revive the G7 in China.
A 4K flagship that costs over 2,000 yuan and includes a body and lens kit.

The camera weighs 360g, has a micro four thirds mount, supports 4K video, and has a 12-60mm lens that can meet most of your daily needs for street snaps and daily video shooting.

CameraBeta believes that some sort of G7II camera might be coming. I have no hint about this yet.

The only “evidence” that this might be true comes directly from Panasonic manager Yamane. He recently said that more affordable Lumix MFT cameras might be coming soon.

Yosuke Yamane manager CEO hints that the first Lumix MFT camera with phase detection might be announced soon!

The French magazine Phototrend interviewed Yosuke Yamane, director of the Imaging Business division at Panasonic Corp. And there are a couple of interesting news:

First they asked him if Phase Detection will be implemented on future FF and MFT cameras:

We will consider adding phase detection AF to our cameras depending on the model characteristics, not only for full-frame cameras, but also for Micro Four Thirds. And on this last point, I invite you to stay tuned for our next announcements.

So it’s super clear that a new MFT camera with phase detection is coming VERY soon!!!

When asked about possible G9, G90 or G100 successors he answered:

As for the next Micro 4/3 box, we are thinking about it while monitoring the evolution of demand. Again, I invite you to stay tuned for our next announcements.

So to me this sounds like a G9II with phase detection could be the hottest candidate for a Spring release. What do you think?
