Panasonic GF1 ‘400 24’ settings – 720/30 100mbit 422 from huw jenkins on Vimeo.
Emmy Award winner Huw Jenkins just sent us the link to his video shoot with the patched Panasonic GF1
“Shot with my new ‘400 24’ settings.
these settings allow you to record clips of up to 2 minutes 27 seconds on the GF1 at 100mbits, 422 color space, 720/30fps
more stable than ‘410 24’, you can now delete from the class 10 SD card and re-record without needing to format (at a push, see below).
single error trip:
‘motion recording was cancelled due to the limitation of the writing speed of the card’
each time you turn on the camera, a single error trip will occur. as with all GF1 100mbit settings so far, the first high bitrate clip recorded will trip this error message, ignore it and continue shooting. the gf1 will record perfectly till you switch off the camera.
card formating:
use a freshly formated class 10 card. if the card already had data on it, files might be fragmented which is more than likely to cause multiple recording errors. this also occurs when deleting files and re-recording. Sometimes my sd (sandisk) can handle this, other times it fails.
when the card is full, the last 10-30 seconds on a 8gb SD fails to write.
file size / clip length:
the maximum size file i can record at any bitrate is 1.85gb. when using ‘400 24’, the bitrate is variable, depending on the complexity of the image being recorded. here is a clip length guide
4 minutes 42 seconds at 56.29 Mbits/second
2 minutes 27 seconds at 100.09 Mbits/second
the settings, for ptool 3.36 or higher:
change only the following
version change: 1 higher than your current version
all Q settings: set to 400
all T settings: set to 24
240->244: selected
leave everything else unselected”
