I’ll tell you up front: I think there’s a 0.0001% chance that Fujifilm will use a Four Thirds sensor. Still, I think it’s worth speculating because I’m 100% certain that Fujifilm will launch a new camera with a sensor size other than APS-C or medium format for the first time in many years (Source: Fujirumors).
Rationally, you’d bet on them going full-frame, but Fujifilm has stated so many times in the past that they’re not going full-frame that this would be a pretty big surprise. This leaves us with some other fancy options like 1 inch sensor (or smaller) or even Four Thirds sensor. Fujifilm is NOT part of the MFT alliance, and the only way I can think of is to use a Four Thirds sensor in a compact fixed lens camera. This would allow them to develop a variant of their popular X100VI with a zoom lens and at an affordable price.
But I know that’s a dream and that Fujifilm is more likely to surprise us with something completely different. What is your best guess about their new product?
