Could the new Panasonic FZ-1000 be all the camera you need?

Share

As a system camera user it’s hard to get excited about fixed lens compact cameras. But the Panasonic FZ-1000 announced today really shake up the premium compact and fixed lens market. First of all it’s priced much lower ($400 less!) than the only competitor to date: The Sony RX10. You can check the price and preorder the Panasonic FZ-1000 at Amazon (Click here), Adorama (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here). In Europe at WexUK (Click here). Here are a list of reasons why that camera is very intriguing:

1) 25-400mm f/2.8-4.0 lens. It has a damn useful zoom (and aperture) range that covers almost all the possible needs you could have when travelling.
2) The lens has no orion-ring effect on the bokeh just like the $1499 Nocticron 42,5mm f/1.2 lens! (Source: DC.watch).
3) It uses the same Sony 20.1 MP 1 inch large sensor of the new RX100M3. But the FZ-1000 seems to have a better performance at 1600 ISO (see Studio Scene comparison at Dpreview).
4) Has an optical 5 axis stabilization.
5) Unlike Sony’s RX10/Rx100M3 Panasonic fully unlocked the sensors 4K recording potential. Now we have 4K at 30fps and 100mbit/s!
6) It has the same Panasonic GH4 processor engine.
7) The EVF doesn’t appear to be a field-sequential panel, meaning it’s free from the RGB ‘tearing’ that undermined that model’s shooting experience (for some people).

This is really a great camera! So here is the short question:

Are you considering to buy the FZ-1000?

Panasonic FZ1000 announced!

Share

The FZ1000 has been announced and you can already preorder it at Amazon (Click here), Adorama (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here). While this is not a MTF camera it’s going to be a very popular camera for travellers. It has a super useful 25-400mm F/2.8-4.0 lens with a large 1 inch sensor and 4K video recording. And it costs $400 less than the Sony RX10!

Gabriel:Hi admin just wanted to share a Hong Kong travel short, shot entirely on GH3 with 12-35, graded with LUTs. http://vimeo.com/97603218

Eric: “I wanted to share some documentary content with you guys that was shot entirely with the GH3.  It is also commercial content shot for Diamond Foods here in California(Parent to Emerald Nuts, Pop Secret, Kettle Chips). Every frame was shot on the GH3.  I figured the 4/3 community would like to check out the work. LINKS TO DOCS:
