Lomo Experimental Lens review.

Share

Image courtsey: PetaPixel.

We have the first review of the newly announced Lomo experimental MFT lenses:

Petapixel tested the lenses and writes: “I think it is a great addition to the MFT family. It shows that the system has enough users for new companies to produce lenses for it. No need to mess around with quirky adapters to get these lo-fi shots. No messing around with post processing if you want to add a certain effect to your pictures.” The original article is from Dirk and can be found at Essl.de.

The lenses are already in Stock at http://shop.lomography.com/ (worldwide shipment).

(FT4) Full Panasonic GH 4K camera specs!

Share

Image on top shows the Canon EOS C300. The new GH will compete against it.

Panasonic said many times that they want to focus on the pro market. And I am certain Panasonic will launch a 4K Micro Four Thirds camera in 2014.

And I already have some possible specs of the new camera! One of my long time trusted sources shared the full specs. I wasn’t able to doublecheck the info yet so don’t take it as a full FT5 rumor yet. Her they are:

Panasonic GH4
16mp
1/8000 shutter
1mil dot OLED screen
21mm OLED viewfinder, 3,000+ dot.
Time code
200mbps mp4 All-i/100mbps IPB
4k/30p
4:2:2 10/8bit output
3G-SDI and XLR adaptor (An adaptor that the camera sits on with XLR x2, HD-SDI x4)
Price: €2799

The source also said that it’s a rather chunky slab of a thing taking the whole width of the GH4 and about an inch deeper front to back, with the outputs all facing out the left if you were to view when holding the camera facing away from you. Certainly not an item expected to be used outside of a rig by the looks of it.

A second source confirmed that a High End Panasonic MFT camera is likely going to be announced in Spring. He cannot confirm the specs but he told me Panasonic will put all the best tech they have into that camera. The camera will compete against the Canon EOS C300 but for 1/5 of the price!

UPDATE: A detailed analysis can be read at EosHD.

An anonymous 43rumors reader sent me that graph and message:

I really like the new E-M1 and I was wondering about the different Olympus prices used for this camera within the EU. So I hit up the main European online Olympus stores to see the different prices. Then I decided to make a little table of this data, presenting this information. I included the both the E-M1 and E-M5, with the kits they are being offered in the EU. This could be interesting for you and your readers.

Notes:
– Not all European countries are listed. Sorry for the ones that are missing.
– The Danish and the Norwegian online stores are offline for some strange reason. They have been for the past 2 days (shop.olympus.dk, shop.olympus.no).
– The prices used for the chart are the prices advertised in the country specific Olympus online store (shop.olympus.fr for example). Prices in the EU usually include VAT. Different countries in the EU have different level of VAT (for example 27% in Hungary).
– All prices were converted to Euros. If the country did not have EUR prices, its currency was converted to Euros by using Google convert (by using conversion rate on Oct 20th, 2013).
– Some Olympus stores did not offer all the kit packages. For example Olympus online store in France is not offering the E-M1 at all. So if a tick is missing, it is probably because the online store is not showing it (or I could not find it).
– Yes, the 1442 E-M5 kit is cheaper than the body only option in Switzerland.
– The US did not have all the kits, so in those cases I selected the body only + lens for the option.
– I don’t speak Japanese, but hopefully I got everything right there too.
– Most expensive countries are: HU, PL, UK.
France also seems expensive for the E-M5 that they have.
– The cheapest one is Russia(!?).
– US and JP prices are still a lot better (although US is not including VAT I think).

I hope that others find this useful as well.

$200 off on GX7 and 20mm lens kit at Amazon.

Share

You can save $200 on the Panasonic GX7 with 20mm f/1.7 combo at Amazon (Click here and read the codes). You will pay $1224 instead of $1444. This is a much more interesting combination than the GX7 with 14-42mm lens.

Coming back to the GM1:
It still sells (order+preorder) well at Amazon (mirrorless ranking here). although the Sony A7 series and Fuji X-E2 stole the show last week. I think the GM1 is one of the best cameras released this year and that’s why I am getting one to replace my old E-P1 :)

(FT4) Panasonic 4K MFT camera coming in 2014!

Share

gh4

Let’s drop the bomb:

According to two highly trusted sources Panasonic will launch a new High End Micro Four Thirds camera that can record 4K video. The camera will be in Stores by 2014. The model is placed above the current [shoplink 33624]Panasonic GH3[/shoplink]. It will not(!) replace it and it will cost much more than the GH3!

I hope to get full specs confirmations soon. But Panasonic is definitely moving towards the professional market with their cameras and lenses. And they want to do it by focusing on one aspect. Top video and photo hybrid quality performance!

P.S.: Stay tuned on 43rumors!
