More Terada interviews….(no Silver E-m1 coming, we do not exclude a Full Frame future).

Share

Mr. Terada from Olympus. Image courtesy: Focus Numerique

Focus Numerique (google translated) and Onfoto (google translated) posted interviews with Mr. Terada from Olympus. I rely on google translation tool to understand the text so please correct me if there is some error here:

Focus Numerique:
– Development TruePic VII for OM-D E-M1 took more than 3 years.
– It is not possible to add 14bit encoding via firmware upgrade. The encoded 14-bit files require more computing power and thus more expensive processor.
– touch screen on the E-M1 will be improved via fw update. But we need more time for it. We also need to work on the work directly connected to a PC mode. But then again, we did not have time to develop all the applications. There are many applications to integrate and soon.

Onfoto:
– FT lens production will continue until there is a demand for it
– Support of FT cameras and lenses will continue
– There will be no silver E-M1
– There is no plan yet to add phase autofocus on future low end MFT models
– We don’t exclude to go Full Frame one day

So, how does it sound for you?

New photoresist technology for organic semiconductors enabling submicron patterns

Share

As you know Fuji and Panasonic are working together on a new generation of organic sensors. Fujifilm just issued a press release to say that they developed a new photoresist technology for organic semiconductors enabling submicron patterns. Image sensor world writes that “Generally, patterning of organic semiconductor materials degrades the property of converting light into electricity, but the OPD developed in this case were patterned without degradation

I don’t expect organic sensors to be used on production cameras before 2015.

Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro Lens Review by Blunty

Full E-M1 review at Digitalcamerareview (Click here). They like the camera a lot but there is also an open question:

“The camera has all the making of a semi-professional or professional camera. The addition of Olympus professional grade lenses makes the E-M1 a strong contender for professional. But will professionals be ready to take the plunge into a mirrorless system instead of holding strong with their DSLR systems? Sadly, I’m not quite sure we are. I think the E-M1 has some pretty spectacular features that most professional cameras don’t offer like an in-camera image stabilization system, weather proofing and tilting LCD screen. But, the overwhelming majority of DSLR users still have no idea what mirrorless can offer and changing camera systems is a scary notion to most. With a price point that is surpassing the Nikon D7100, Olympus is going to struggle with securing new buyers.”

CamerLabs RAW test: “under the hood, the Panasonic Lumix GX7, Olympus OMD EM5 and EM1 all share pretty much the same degree of real-life detail and noise levels.”

(FT5) Olympus to announce a mini-OMD alike compact camera (with small sensor)

Share

[shoplink 42073 ebay][/shoplink]

The [shoplink 42073 ebay]mini OMD keychain[/shoplink]…not the real OMD mini :)

Two trusted sources confirmed that Olympus will announce a new High End compact camera in October. It will look like the an OMD (has integrated EVF) but feature a much smaller sensor. The smaller sensor will allow the camera to have a compact 28-300mm zoom. Basically it’s a sort of mini portable OMD…just a bit bigger than the [shoplink 42073 ebay]OMD keychain you can find on eBay[/shoplink] :)

I also got some info about a second high-end compact with FT sensor. But that camera could be announced a couple of months later…
