Next $50 price drop on the E-M5.

[shoplink 39672 ebay][/shoplink]

Right now Sunset Electronics is selling the [shoplink 39673 ebay]E-M5 body for $869.95 (Click here)[/shoplink] and the [shoplink 39672 ebay]E-M5 with 12-50mm lens for $1,109.95 (Click here)[/shoplink]. That’s $50 less than the current price at Amazon and BH. Of course it ships for free.

These are now among the lowest price we have seen on new E-M5 bodies. So if there will be really a low end OMD model it will have to be priced very low (like $600-$700). That camera will have to compete against the brand new Panasonic G6.

(FT5) Delay on the Schneider MFT lens release.

Share

According to trusted sources the launch of the new Schneider MFT lenses has been delayed by at least six months. The reason for this are the limited production capability. But don’t worry they will come for sure :)

One of the sources also told me that the lenses will cost less(!) than 1.500 Euro. As you know there will be three of them, the 14mm f/2.0 the 30mm f/1.4 and the Macro 60mm f/2.4.

All three lenses also have:
– Full electronic aperture control and autofocus.
– High-refractive lenses and special lens elements
– Internal focusing
– Very high resolution across the entire image area, even at full starting aperture
– High-quality aluminum casing, robust mechanics
– Hydrophobic coating of outer elements
– Protection against dust and splashing

By the way, a reader (Thanks!) sent me that size comparison with some existing MFT lenses. Click on it to see a large size version.

P.S: Some of the current Schneider lenses makes for other mounts. A couple of them would be welcome as a native MFT version!

E-P5 studio sample pics and Ming Thein review update.

Share

If we are lucky than by end of this week the E-P5 will ship to our homes (according to Amazon US release date info). And now you can see some image samples taken with the production version of the camera:

Imaging Resource posted the full E-P5 studio shots. You can now use their comparometer to see how good or bad the nee camera performs.

Ming Thei tested the final production E-P5 and had also the ability to evaluate the RAW file quality and writes: “I still think they’re still a hair better than the OM-D in terms of color and tonality, and possibly the best I’ve straight-from-camera output I’ve seen

Sounds good! Now let’s hope Amazon doens’t mess with the release date…:)

(FT3) There will be a new entry level OMD in September?

Share

Two anonymous sources got hints about a new entry level OMD camera that will be cheaper (and not a replace!) than the current E-M5. I am working on the camera specs now but if the rumor is correct I don’t know if that is a bold move from Olympus. Anyway, it would mean that we can expect three new cameras to be announced in early September:

– Low end OMD model
– High end compact camera with fixed lens
– High end camera (FT or hybrid FT-MFT)

For sources: Sources can send me anonymous info at 43rumors@gmail.com (create a fake gmail account) or via contact form you see on the right sidebar. Thanks!
