The main discussion around the new E-P5 was and still is the price. Robin Wong (Click here) posted a report about the Touch and Try Session with the Olympus E-P5 and wrote: “I have been monitoring the overall feedback and comments on the Olympus PEN E-P5, and many mentioned that they were taken aback with the rather high pricing. The E-P5 is here but a rumor site is always hungry and we collected two info about the next Olympus MFT camera. As you it’s coming in Spetember and it will be the new OMD model (E-M6?). Two rumors came right out of the E-P5 presentation:
1) Our friend Pekka Potka wrote: “Quite obvious to everyone seeing E-P5 should be that the next OM-D series model goes well above E-M5 in features. Incorporating VF-4 should be just one of them. And that is all I can say now…”
2) Olympus employees at the PEN Collection 2013 Fair said that next OMD will have phase detection AF (Source: biglobe).

It’s not the first time we get this rumors and and both features are very likely to make into the new OMD model. What are you hoping to get with the new OMD?

New E-P5 Olympus page.

Olympus launched a dedicated E-P5 website you can see here: http://www.olympuspen.com/. It’s a nice website but the only thing that I didn’t like and scared me a bit is the video announcement from the Olympus Group President. The problem is not the president. The speech itself is very interesting. And the Olympus President says a lot of interesting things. I am only surprised by the rather uninspiring “ambiance” chosen for an official product presentation. That “grey atmosphere”. It almost looks like a speech from a boring serious bureaucrat in a huge communist soviet building :)
