(FT5) New focus features on the E-P5 and new connect “trick”

I have been told by a source that the E-P5 also has two brand new autofocus features:
1) Super Spot AF: you can now select an area that is even smaller than standard AF points. Ideal to focus on very small subjects
2) Focus Peaking: yoy already know what this is :)

The E-P5 also has some new features concerning “connectivity”:
1) Built-in Wifi. You can use the Olympus Image Share Application to remotely control the camera.
2) QR display: There is also a new connect “trick”. The E-P5 can display “QR codes” on the LCD screen. If you point your Mobiles camera on the QR code to connect both devices

First Panasonic GF6 review at ePhotozine. G6 pricing in Europe.

The new Panasonic GF6 just got his first review thanks to ePhotozine (Click here): “The Panasonic Lumix GF6 offers almost everything you could want from a mirrorless camera, with the most likely complaint about it likely to be the lack of flash hot-shoe, making it less appealing to the more serious photographer”

Panasonic Germany listed the G6 and relative pricing. I still haven’t found preorder options in Europe. Feel fre to comment this post with store links if you find them!

Sigma officially annoucned the pricing and availability of the 60mm f/2.8 ART lens. It will ship on may 16 and is priced at $239. preorders here at BHphoto (both Silver and Black). The 19mm can be preordered here and the 30mm here.

(FT5) Body only and 17mm kit to ship in June (no 14-42mm kit yet).

I got a confirmation from multiple sources that the new Olympus E-P5 will ship in June. And there is also a surprise. At the beginning Olympus will offer the body only and the 17mm kit version only! There will be no 14-42mm kit yet (it may come later).

There is still a big “???” on the final price. Early rumors I got from an anonymous source said the price will be around $1000 with kit lens. If you consider that the actual (discounted) price for the 17mm lens is $449 (here at Amazon) this sounds a bit too good to be true. I expect the price to higher /the $1,000 price may be refered to a future 14-42mm kit option). I hope sources are reading this and may help me to gather this info. Thanks!

Mark that day and that hour: Olympus announcement i scheduled for May 10 at 5am London time. That is:
– 10pm on May 9 in Los Angeles
– 1am on May 10 in New York City
– 7am on May 10 in Berlin
– 2pm on May 10 in Tokyo

I know you are all focused on the new E-P5 launch but there is a camera that uses exactly the same sensor form the E-M5 and E-P5 and sells for $429 with lens(!). If you click on these links you will also notice that the kit version is actually cheaper than the body only! That’s the best quality-price rate you can get right now on a Micro Four Thirds camera. Sorry dear European colluegues, we still have to pay a bit less than 500 Euro to grab it (prices here on Slidoo eBay).
