The spanish website quesabesde tested the new Olympus 9-18mm lens (google english translation).

Their sentences in short:
– surprised by the smallness of their size, both length and diameter (but it becomes very long when you are at 9mm)
– fast autofocus (compared with older Olympus MFT lenses)
– 9 mm shows a significant distortion
– best results working with an aperture of f/8
– almost no vignetting
– moderate CA (Chromatic aberration)

(FT5) Sony vs MicroFourThirds – The price war

Share

The upcoming Sony mirrorless camera announcement will finally start a “terrible” price war. According to SonyAlphaRumors the NEX3 camera + 16mm lens will be cheaper than the Olympus E-PL1 +kit lens!

Of course we have to see the specs to make a serious comparison. The NEX3 camera will probably have no internal flash and definitely no built-in Image stabilization. But there is no doubt that Sony has the power to keep the price as low as possible. In some way this is good news for us. Panasonic and Olympus will certainly have to lower the price.

(FT2) UPDATED -> Pentax joining MicroFourThirds?

Share

According to Valentin Sama Pentax-Hoya is considering to join MicroFourThirds. No other details were given.

UPDATE3: RiceHigh explains very well why Pentax will not join MicroFourThirds!.

UPDATE2: Mr Sama got this information from a senior Pentax manager. He also said that maybe the manager referred to the Micro Four Thirds as “System” or “concept”.

UPDATE: Jose told us more about the person Mr.Sama: “Mr Sama is not a photographer but a very well know and respected optics professor at the university and the autor of one of the best spanish photography magazine ever (funding member of european TIPA association BTW) and most importantly (for you), Mr Sama is the one, and only, behind DSLRMagazine website wich you have linked to a few times before.
