DxO mark tests the GH1 sensor and compares it with the Canon 7D sensor!

Share

The GH1 even outperforms a hypothetical four-thirds sensor cut from a
(wider) Canon EOS 7D sensor (with the same pixel size). With its 50%
larger sensor surface (corresponding to 9 DxOMark Sensor points), one
would expect the 7D to have outperformed the GH1 by 9 points. Instead,
it achieves a DxOMark score of 64.9 — only slightly more than 1 point
above the GH1’s score of 63.6.

Except for the Olympus E410 and Olympus E510 (both released in early
2007), which have a DxOMark Sensor score of about 50, most four-thirds
sensors have a DxOMark Sensor score of about 55. The GH1 outperforms
them all with a DxOMark Sensor score of 63.6.

The GH1 outperforms other four-third sensors in terms of Low-Light ISO
(772 for the GH1 vs 571 for the Olympus E3, the second-best performer)
and Dynamic Range (11.6 for the GH1 vs 10.8 for the Panasonic DMC L10,
second-best performer).

Canon 7D’s performance is similar to the G1’s at ISO settings up to
800, and similar to the GH1’s at ISO settings from 3200. The GH1
outperforms the 7D for ISO settings up to 800.

The Olympus “teaser camera” rumors summary

Share

It is time to take a break and to make a summary.

What we know for certain is that Olympus will take a press conference on February 2nd. That’s a fact. We also know that they will announce new compact cameras (probably a Tough camera, a Megazoom camera, the camera shown on the teaser and maybe something else). Do not expect a new FourThirds camera announcement. We have been told that there will be a second press conference quickly after the February 2 announcement (probably before the PMA) where Olympus will announce the E-3 successor.

We havn’t been able to get 100% reliable information. It seems that Olympus kept the new camera secret to everyone :)

We can only speculate this time!
To date the camera seems to be a Low-End MicroFourThirds model with interchangeable lens-mount (not fixed lens). It has a plastique body, probably a built-in flash, same E-P1 sensor, Art Filters, it cost something around $500-$550. And obviousely it is smaller than the E-P1/GF1.
But that’s just my speculation.

As soon as we receive 99% reliable “rumors” we will post it on 43rumors! Keep following us!

Cheers
Ale

(FT2) UPDATED -> Chinese rumor..(need some help for translation)

New and better translation:

The new camera is called E-P()1
12 mega pixel
An entry level M43 camera
It is not necessary for the existing E-P1-2 users to feel sorry since E-P1-2 got 2 dial but E-P()1 got only one
However, E-P()1 got a very good teaching function which allows user to take good photo easily
It will be roughly 70% cheaper than E-P1-2
E-P1/2 will not stop production or cut price
There are 6 art filters, with some changes, very handy
Not classical look but cool
Announce next week
Sale starts after PMA

It seems the source is coming from Olympus staff…
