20mm

Would’nt the GH1 with 20mm 1.7 lens be favolous?

Made a availability check today and the camera is still not in stock anywhere. I do not know what Panasonic is waiting for. They announced the camera in March (March 3th!!!) and after 5 months most of you can’t still buy the camera. The camera received high ratings from various big websites (look at dpreview) and from US to Hong Kong nobody knows when there will be a camera in stock.

And finally what’s the sense of showing the 20mm 1.7 lens and then let the user wait for it since months and months? Please Panasonic tell us when you want to release definitely the lens!

(FT3) Updated2->The next three Panasonic MicroFourThirds lenses.

We already told you that Panasonic will keep working with Leica on new lenses. Finally “someone” told us which lenses you could be seeing in Q4 2009 or Q1 2010.

- 20mm f/1.7 (This is the only lens Panasonic has officially announced). This lens hasn’t be made in collaboration with Leica and should be released in autumn.

16-50mm f/2.5-4.8 OIS (summarit)

30mm f/1.4 OIS (summilux)

The last two lenses should be released together with the new Panasonic MicroFourThirds camera at the end of the year.

UPDATE: The 16-50 f/2.8-4.5 should be optimized for video. That explains the 16mm starting focal length which is unusual for photography but a normal focal length for videocameras.
UPDATE2: I made a little mistake. The source told me the 16-50mm lens will have a f/2.5-4.8 aperture! That’s why it is called Summarit (because it starts with 2.5)!
P.S.: I know it sounds a little unusual but we will soon see if the source has been right!

.

If you need lenses I remind you that Panasonics 45-200mm f/4.0-5.6 Lumix lens is in stock at amazon.com (with heavy discount for $308 only!).
.

And sadly, still none in stock :(5

In Europe there are so many little online shops that I couldnt possibly keep tabs on where the E-P1 is in stock. But finally redcoon (one of the biggest european online shops) is taking preorders in some countries. And depending on the country you live in the E-P1 is in stock or available for preorder only.
Check it for yourself!

Redcoon Deutschland

Redcoon Italia

Redcoon Poland

P.S.: I am working on a MicroFourThirds adapter table similar to the E-P1 table on the top of the page. Should be online tomorrow.

Thom Hogan’s Nikon roadmap (with MicroFourThirds considerations) and Fullframe thoughts

Share

Thom Hogan posted his Nikon roadmap and some general thoughts over camera development. It should interest you because there is a big part where he discusses the new market segment opened by Panasonic and Olympus.

.

One more thing. Like you I read all this post over Fullframe sensors and their advantage. I never partecipate this discussions because it is mostly a waste of time. Fullframe doesn’t make a better photographer from you and the image quality you gain is not worthy for the high price you have to pay for it. It depends from your needs which camera or system you have to choose.

Thom Hogan says it right:”The FX Lust. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that most people lusting after FX are using excuses to justify wanting it, not showing real need. Can you really say that you’re hitting diffraction, ISO, isolation, or viewfinder brightness limits with DX? Right, most of you can’t. Most of you would be better served by the D300’s cover-the-frame AF, frankly. DX has advantages, too–cost being a huge one–so don’t overlook them.

and: “The Pursuit of Pixels. See my previous comments on this site: 12mp is probably more than good enough for most people. A few complain “but I tend to crop a lot.” Not a valid excuse, as this is usually a lens or photographer problem, not a camera issue: keep reading.

.

Please folks, try to understand your needs and then shop consequently. Do not waste money and time. What matters are the stories you want to tell and not the camera you use!
