The external EVF:
Olympus unofficially told some people (like the administrators from http://www.forum-fourthirds.de and to some of our friends in London and Hong Kong) that there will be soon an external EVF. Instinctively I thought the External EVF should work for the E-P1.

But now I am beginning to believe that the external EVF could work for the next PEN only! So yes It COULD be that I made a mistake (may I will know it soon). The EVF is a FT5 (sure thing) rumor but we do not know if it can be used on the E-P1. Accept my excuses I am not a robot, I am a man working on this website in the time between my real work and my family time. Sometimes my sources are not accurate enough  (see the latest LX4 rumor) sometimes Olympus and Panasonic do changes and that’s why rumors could change and sometimes I can be an Idiot ;)

I hope you can appreciate my beeing honest to you. And I promise you I will be more accurate with our next rumors.

From one of our best sources: “There will be soon (October) a new external Electronic Viewfinder you can attach on the hotshoe of the PEN. The Hotshoe alone can’t deliver the image. You need a cable to connect the Pen to the EVF.”

I  (Alejandro from 43rumors) confess I have one single doubt. Will the EVF work with the E-P1 and the next Olympus MicroFourThirds cameras? Or with the E-P1 only? Or with the next Pen model only? The two BIG source don’t gave me a clear answer…

I have the doubt because no source mentions the E-P1 (they say PEN). May it is just me making problems for nothing.

UPDATE: The sources can’t or won’t tell me more. Personally I can’t imagine how the cable could connect the E-P1 to the EVF on the hotshoe. You want be able to hold the camera.

43rumors is 100% that there will be an attachable external electronic viewfinder. The EVF can be fixed on the hotshoe mount. The cable will connect the EVF to the PEN. And the EVF should be released early October. That means or this thing works with the E-P1 or the EVF will be released together with the next PEN which should be able to use this stuff ;)

Chasseur d’image knows that the E-P2 should be released before the end of the year and it will have an electronic viewfinder. A japanese website claims to know that the EVF will be external (like the one from Panasonic) and the E-P2 should come all in black.

P.s.: Amazon.com always shows the E-P1 + 17mm lens as NOT in stock….but G.C. today received exactly this combination from amazon.com. So if you want it get it here (Silver Olympus PEN E-P1 with 17mm f/2.8 Lens and Viewfinder). May you will be lucky enough to receive the combo soon.

Olympus Manager Watanabe already said that there will be two zoom lenses. From a marketing point of view this isn’t a good move from Olympus. The is gaining a lot of popularity and they would sell a lot of lenses it they were ready yet! (The would be popular too …if the camera would be available!)

One month ago a new sources sent me the specs of the LX4(5). I choose to wait for some confirmation from trusted sources. Then a very known sources said that a LX4 camera could be unveiled very soon. For us this has been a good reason to post the LX4(5) rumor with FT4 value (from known source).

Yesterday another very reliable source told us that he do not believe the LX4(5) could be released soon. We discussed this with the other known LX4 rumor source and he admitted that may he made a mistake making an interpretation of some “signs” (Sorry I can’t tell you what exactly this signs are). Now he believes the camera released in August could be the LX4-5 OR the MFT!

The good thing is that this rumor created a reaction from other sources and now we have some more infos ;)

Anyway that doesn’t mean that the LX4-5 isn’t coming! The specs we gave you are still a valid rumor but simply not confirmed or denied by our trusted sources. So the LX4 rumor value has changed from FT4 (known source) to FT2 (new source).

Now the good news. This is the only thing we have to change because 2 BIG sources do confirm that Panasonic will soon announce new products. 3 BIG source know that Panasonic is working on a compact MFT model. They do not know when Panasonic will announce the camera but the IFA in Berlin could be a very good chance for it (may for a MFT pre-announce?).
