Lensvid: 2024 was the first year since 2017 where we have seen an increase in the number of cameras shipped

Share

Lensvid analyzed the official CIPA shipment data and concluded:

2024 was the first year since 2017 where we have seen a year-to-year increase in the number of cameras sold/shipped globally – from 7.8 million in 2023 to 8.3 – an increase of over 6%.

And they attempted a forecast:

Looking ahead to 2025 we don’t expect big changes. If anything we believe that unless some big global changes occur this year (again), we are going to see mostly more of the same with possibly a slight increase in sales (especially with mirrorless cameras at the expense of DSLRs) and maybe even an increase in compact cameras thanks to the interest in the X100 line from Fujifilm (and possibly a new RX1 replacement) and some of the instant cameras (even basic compacts have seen a renewed interest, especially in Japan).

ThePhoBlographer believes that “We May Get 40-150mm F2 from OM System Very Soon”

Share

ThePhoBlographer writes this about the teased telephoto zoom from OM Digital:t

While a mid-range zoom like this getting an update is significant, it would be even more great if we could get one with a bright aperture like the f2 or f1.8. Why so? Because that is what photographers need with such a small sensor. Many years ago during the regular Four Thirds DSLR days, Olympus had f2 zooms. With a zoom range of 40-150mm, it is ideal for travel, portraits, weddings, wildlife, and even events. However, f4 and f2.8 can be really limiting in certain situations, such as low-light photography. You also can’t stop it down too much due to diffraction. But, if you switch this up with f1.8 or f2, photographers will get more pronounced and bold bokeh, which will be really ideal to separate the background from the subject, as well as to make the picture more appealing.

What do you think about this?

OM interview: No plans to make a film camera, fixed lens camera. High Resolution cameras and new PEN are under consideration.

Share

Phototrend had a chat with OM managers Kazuhiro Togashi and Sandro Rymann.

About the financial status:

We have seen an increase in our revenue and profits over the past three years since OM Digital Solutions was founded.

About the OM-3:

The OM-3 is our first camera launched after the establishment of OM Digital Solutions. We started from scratch. In the past, many users were worried about our R&D resources and investment capabilities. But we already have a plan for new products in the future, including lenses.

About possible film cameras:

Currently, we have no plans in this regard.

About a possible 4/3 fixed lens camera:

We don’t have any plans for that at the moment, but we are continuing to study the commercial potential of such a product.

About new PEN cameras:

The PEN series is a core part of the OM System lineup, and we are actively exploring the possibility of a successor.

About higher resolution sensors:

we continue to explore new sensor technologies, including those with higher resolution.
